The BBC Doctor Who website has a lovely video of legendary Blue Peter presenter Valerie Singleton making a variety of Dalek goodies from 1966.

There’s a Dalek cake.

A Dalek made from marshmallows and a chocolate cream walnut.

And a savoury version make from sandwhiches!

Why not try making some yourself in the run up to Saturday’s episode Victory of the Daleks.

Unfortunately the video is only available to watch in the UK.

Thanks to @DoktorWaston for the link 🙂

According to The Doctor, Humans are the only race in the universe that have invented edible ball bearings. Why not celebrate that fact by using them to make Dalek biscuits!

Well that’s how I spent my Sunday anyways (my sadness surprises even me sometimes).

I used the same recipe as the gingerbread Doctors (I will get round to doing some new stuff soon, promise) and added the ball bearings on as the Dalek “bumps”.

I cut each Dalek out by hand, so they’re vary slightly in their sizes/shape. I’m sure you can get a cookie cutter in the shape of a Dalek from somewhere.

And that’s about it really. Here are some pics:

And a close up:

So I’ve just been to the doctors after a few days of head/neck pain and it turns out I’ve strained a muscle in my neck. The cause…. Doctor Who Baking!

Spending around 12 hours last Friday baking and icing gingerbread and cupcakes for The Eleventh Hour launch party it seems to not only have given me RSI in my wrists and fingers but also muscle strain…hooray(!)

Despite this I will continue to bake. Martin, you will get those gingerbread Doctors at some point, I promise! 🙂

Anyways, I have no idea if you were interested in that at all but thought I should warn you of the dangers of Doctor Who Baking 😛

Just to prove that @JamGregory @DoktorWatson @Muligrubs and I didn’t eat all of those gingerbread by ourselves at the launch party at the weekend, here are some lovely folk enjoying them!

Here’s @eryka_ with a little Matt Smith:

And here’s Prakash with a little Sylvester McCoy:

Glad you guys enjoyed the gingerbread Doctors….now what do I make for the next event? 😛

Update: I saw that there were a few people being linked to this website via the Gallifrey Base foum so I took a look and there were pictures and comments. Its all kinda weird for me to be honest, but nice to know that people appreciated the effort and liked them.

Just been sent this link via @DoktorWatson who got it via @D_Hollingsworth:

“Our friend Adam does a #DoctorWho themed cake for every series launch”

How adorable is that Adipose cake?!? I don’t think I could eat it!

Well done Adam! If you’ve got pictures of the other cakes and you wanna show them off I’d love to put them up!

Here is the recipe for the gingerbread Doctors I made along with close up pictures of the original batch.

350g plain flour

175g light brown sugar

100g butter

1 egg

1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

1 tsp ground ginger

4 tblsp golden syrup

I’m not so great at doing things step by step, I’m far to impatient for that, so I bung it all in a bow at once and mix it with my hands. Once you’ve got a nice dough, roll out it out so its roughly half a centimere thick and use a cookie cutter.

Bake for about 15 mins at Gas mark 5 (I think that’s about 190 degrees Celsius), check after 10 minutes.

All that’s left is to decorate them! But be warned spending 10 hours doing it can cause repetitive strain injury!!

So for the close ups of The Doctors:

Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee

Baker, Davison, Baker

McCoy, McGann, Eccleston

Tennant, Smith

For those of you who are wondering where Cushing, Shalka Doctor, Fatal Curse Doctors etc are I only do canonical gingerbread 😛

These were only my first attempt. For an updated version of them (in particular Colin Baker – complete with stripy cuffs, polka-dot scarf, and cat broach) see the previous post The Eleventh Hour Launch Party, London.

Yesterday saw the launch of Series 5 / 31 / 1 / Fnarg of Doctor Who and the introduction of Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor. There was a specail launch event in London, which I managed to get tickets for.

My recent discovery that I could make gingerbread and ice them like the different incarnations of The Doctor led me to make 6 little versions of each Doctor. That’s 66 gingerbread men in total. I’m surprised my hands didn’t drop off! It took me about 10 hours to bake and ice them all and here are the results:

Doctors 1 - 11

Doctors 1 - 6

Doctors 7 - 11

They seemed to go pretty well and I managed to get rid of them all! Even the event organiser said they were good and Toby Hadoke (http://www.tobyhadoke.com/) took one, although he said he couldn’t eat it because he was on a diet! Katy Manning was at the event, but I was too much of a wimp to offer her a gingerbread Pertwee! 😛

As well as the gingerbread Doctors I also took along The Cupcakes of Rassilon (see previous post )

I wasn’t the only one to take baked goods along to the Launch Party. We met up with @DoktorWatson who had made a brilliant army of Dalek biscuits:

If anyone has any more pics of them with the gingerbread at the event send me a link and I’ll post it. (I’m @Nelle_Macbeth on twitter).

I have found one tweet already from someone I didn’t know saying:

“Someone at the #doctorwho do last night made gingerbread Doctors. I love her.”

So that’s lovely! She also posted a picture of all the gingerbread. Thanks @erykah_ ! 😀

So, yeah that’s about it. Just trying to work out how we can top that at the next event!

Next time we’ll charge I think……

The Cupcakes of Rassilon

Don’t really know where the idea came from for these. Its a simple cupcake recipe.

100g self raising flour

100g caster sugar

100g butter

2 eggs

tsp baking powder

and I like to add a tsp of vanilla essence

For the topping I just used normal icing sugar for the base and one of those icing tubes you can get for the detail and copied this picture of the Seal of Rassilon:
